Hi! I’m Alice.
So who am I, and what do I do? I am both an artist (Alice Luetchford – Art) and an athlete. I live in London with my severely sight impaired husband, James Luetchford and our two cats. One has 3 legs; one has 4. We are an inclusive household!
Very fortunately, I have two passions; art and skiing. When skiing, I guide my husband & we both train with British Parasnowsport (previously called the British Disabled Ski Team). We have just started racing for GB and James is currently ranked #27 in the world for visually impaired male slalom. It’s been a roller coaster of a ride but one that has brought us so much pleasure. And unexpected fitness. Anyway because I have to try and keep James alive on the slopes, I can’t actually paint there and then. I instead take copious photographs to use as inspiration when I return back home to London.
I absolutely love painting and have been painting or drawing for as long as I can remember. I particularly enjoy painting anything that’s natural; mountains, landscapes, people and animals. Mother Nature is incredible and I try to show my respect for her magnificence and beauty in everything I do. I work from our spare room in our London flat, and use photographs for the basis of my paintings. I tend to loosely base them on reality but will tend to make them slightly more abstract: I use a palette knife to paint the mountainous areas on the canvas. Doing this means I capture an energy in my work that I wouldn’t otherwise be able to do. My painting becomes a very physical exercise; my whole arm moves as I paint. Most of my enjoyment from painting comes from how I actually feel as I paint. I feel incredibly happy.
Usually I paint in oils but I also enjoy drawing with pencil on paper. I also love to paint commissions so if you’d like to find out more please have a look at my Commissions page.
